Placer mining on Lost Chicken Creek occurred along the creek and more extensively on a bench at the head of the creek, following the the invention in 1895. The Misplaced Chicken Creek placer deposit is sometimes called Misplaced Rooster Hill. The deposit has been mined from about 1901 to the present, making it one of the longest regularly mined deposits in Alaska.
